Prince William Delegate Tapped to Deliver Remarks Immediately Following Governor’s Address; Speaker Howell Notes Frederick’s Leadership on Land Use and Transportation as Key to Selection

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Richmond, Virginia (January 9, 2007) – Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) today announced the selection of Delegate Jeffrey M. Frederick (R-Prince William) to deliver the Republican perspective on the state of the commonwealth. Delegate Frederick will appear with Senator J. Brandon Bell (R-Roanoke County) immediately following the Governor’s State of the Commonwealth Address at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2007.

“Delegate Frederick has been one of the most engaged and aggressive members of the General Assembly in promoting legislation for responsible growth and sensible transportation solutions,” noted Speaker Howell. “House Republicans are making land use reforms to control growth and sprawl a major component of our legislative agenda this year, so it’s only natural that we have Jeff, one of the leaders of the efforts for common-sense growth management measures, deliver our perspective on the state of the commonwealth.”

Delegate Frederick, serving his second term in the House of Delegates, is sponsoring legislation that is a key component of the House Republicans transportation and land use legislative package. In addition, last year he sponsored successful legislation to require traffic impact statements for proposed developments, granting localities greater control over growth.

“I’m honored to have been selected by the Speaker to address the citizens of the Commonwealth on the people’s priorities for their state government,” remarked Delegate Frederick. “In the House, transportation is at the top of our list, and I look forward to producing results that will relieve congestion get Virginia into the 21st Century with our roads, rail and transit so that our families can spend less time commuting and more time together.”

The Governor’s Annual State of the Commonwealth Address and the Republican Perspective on the state of the commonwealth are scheduled to be broadcast on PBS affiliates across Virginia, and Northern Virginia’s NewsChannel 8, tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
