Frederick participates in America’s Legislators Back to School Week

Woodbridge, Virginia (September 24, 2004) – Delegate Jeff Frederick met with 4th graders at area schools this past week as part of America’s Legislators Back to School Week, a nationwide effort to engage young people in the government process. He joined an estimated 2,500 other state legislators from across the country in the sixth annual event sponsored by the National Conference of State Legislatures (http://ncsl.org).

“Our republic is founded upon great ideas, and the ability to debate and embrace them,” Del. Frederick said. “Throughout our nation's history, we have found time after time how one idea can change the world, our country, and our communities.”

Frederick's schedule for the America’s Legislators Back to School Week included visits to Ashland Elementary, Dumfries Elementary, Potomac View Elementary, and Marumsco Hill Elementary. He visited with students about the legislative process and his role in state government. He also encouraged to students to make a difference through their participation in the democratic process.

"We can all have a positive impact in our community, and it is great to be able to meet with students and show them that they too can and should participate, and make a difference," Frederick added.

Partners in the America's Legislators Back to School Week include: The American Association of School Administrators, American Federation of Teachers, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Center for Civic Education, Center On Congress at Indiana University, Close Up Foundation, Freedom’s Answer, National Association of Elementary School Principals, National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, National Catholic Educational Association, National Constitution Center, National Council for the Social Studies, National Education Association, National Middle School Association, National School Boards Association, Reading Recovery Council of North America, and The Dirksen Congressional Center.
