Richmond, Virginia -- Del. Jeff Frederick (R-52nd District) launched his first term in the House of Delegates this week by introducing HB 1188, a bill prohibiting Virginia from taxing internet commerce.
After introducing the measure, Del. Frederick commented: “With a Democratic Governor speaking so often in the past about being open to taxes on internet commerce, it’s imperative that we act quickly to prevent it. Online taxes would lead to the loss of thousands of jobs and directly impact the economic recovery now under way in Virginia.”
As of 2003, there were an estimated 228,000 technology related jobs in Virginia, making it one of the most important job sectors in the commonwealth.
Del. Frederick has submitted the bill as part of his comprehensive legislative package for Virginia families this session. Included in his package are bills providing tax credits for teachers, prohibiting the construction of landfills near residential areas, and protecting Virginia’s transportation trust fund.
Del. Frederick represents the 52nd District in The House of Delegates. The district encompasses the eastern part of Prince William County.
