Richmond, Virginia (February 17, 2009) -- On Monday, for the fifth consecutive year, Delegate Jeff Frederick and his wife Amy hosted citizens from eastern Prince William County in Richmond for his annual 52nd District Constituent Day.

While Frederick always welcomes his constituents to Richmond at any time, during the 2005 session he decided that it was important to designate a day to encourage people to come to the Capitol and see their state government first-hand in action. He has hosted the event each year since on President's Day, a day that most people are excused from work or school for the holiday -- but a day that the legislature is in session, giving people the opportunity to come without having to take a vacation day.

“This office belongs to the people of the 52nd district, so I'm glad we were able to put together a program once again this year, and that more than 50 citizens made the hour and twenty minute trip to Richmond to see the legislative process at work”, Frederick said.

The festivities, which included a welcoming reception, an opportunity to view the House of Delegate session, tours of the Capitol Grounds, and remarks from Lt. Governor Bill Bolling -- all of which made for a full day, but one that was universally enjoyed.

Today, Frederick hosted his 4th Annual Student Art Day. This event, which began last year, centers around the artwork displayed outside his Richmond office in the General Assembly Building.

Prior to the start of session, Frederick's office invites each school in his district to submit two pieces of artwork for display. Schools can use whatever criteria they chose to select the artwork, which decorates the area outside of his office for the duration of the yearly legislative session.

Students, parents, teachers, and principals are then invited to Richmond to see the artwork, as well as to participate in activities similar to those that occurred on constituent day. The difference is that this event is intended to recognize and honor the students whose work was selected. Students were presented with a commendation from the House of Delegates at the event.

Prince William County Public Schools Superintendent, Steven L. Walts, said the school division is proud to support Frederick's art program. “Prince William County Public Schools has an outstanding arts education curriculum. Our staff and students are always eager to showcase their talents and the legislative 'Annual Art Day Program' is one excellent way to promote our World-Class School Division. Prince William County Public Schools is proud to participate in this worthwhile program”, said Dr. Walts.
