Richmond, Virginia (January 11, 2008) – Earlier this week, Speaker William J. Howell appointed Delegate Jeff Frederick to the powerful House Transportation Committee on the opening day of the 2008 General Assembly session. Fresh into his third term, Frederick was awarded the prominent committee assignment due to his well developed expertise in the subject and to complement his work as a member of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA), legislative leaders said.

“Jeff has dedicated a great deal of time and effort to finding real solutions to the transportation challenges facing our Commonwealth. His out-of-the-box approach is exactly what we need to continue to reform our outdated transportation system, so Jeff was a natural choice for this important assignment,” Howell said about the appointment. House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith added: “Jeff has proven to be an effective leader during his time in office, and I know the House looks forward to his insight on the transportation committee.”

Frederick was pleased with the new appointment and said it will help him serve his constituents more effectively. “Transportation continues to be at the top of my legislative agenda,” he said. “I look forward helping to produce results with a comprehensive strategy that will relieve congestion and get Virginia into the 21st Century with our roads, rail and transit so that our families can spend less time commuting and more time together.”

Transportation committee chairman, Delegate Joe May, said that Frederick will be a strong addition to the committee. “Representing both the Route 1 and I-95 corridors in Prince William with a super-majority of his constituents commuting north daily, Delegate Frederick brings a sound perspective that will serve the committee well,” May said.

Frederick will continue to retain his seats on the Finance; Health, Welfare, and Institutions; and Privileges and Elections committees, but has left the Education committee due to his appointment to the Transportation panel. He was also named Chairman of the Constitutional Amendments sub-committee of the Privileges and Elections committee.
